In musical notation, a bar (or measure) is a segment of time defined by a given number of beats of a given duration. In Hip Hop it refers to each line written by the emcee...if an emcee has "bars" then they've got lines for days...If a Master Poet has B.A.R.S. (Brilliant Art Requires Swagg)--not only do they have strong poetic lines, but they also have "swagg"--style, charisma and attitude.

This album was recorded by UAP's Master Poets crew, as part of Urban Art Partnership's (www.urbanarts.org) 2011 Summer Intensive Workshop Series. The Master Poets is a collection of UAP's most dedicated poets, lyricists and song writers (ages 16 - 20). Throughout the year they have committed themselves to using their voices to raise awareness about issues in their community and to advocate for change not only in their own lives, but in the greater world beyond. Over a 3-week intensive summer session held at Dixon Place Theater (www.dixonplace.org) on the L.E.S., the Master Poets worked to write and record a full-length album, including both acapella poems and songs.
